Check Out the Nepean Wildcats “Friendship Game” This Wednesday

By now you have all seen the Budweiser “Flash Fans” commercial that aired at Super Bowl time this year where a men’s league game was over-run by a professional-like atmosphere much to the surprise of the players involved.  If you haven’t seen it, or want to see it again take a look:

Well, this Wednesday night, March 21st, there will be a team of midget girls aged 16-18 visiting from Nunavik. They are part of the Nunavik Hockey Development Program, which is being chaired by former Ottawa Senator Joe Juneau.  The Nunavik Nordiques will be facing the Nepean Wildcats at the Bell Sensplex, and a group of ladies are making the event extra special by attempting to provide a similar atmosphere as the Budweiser “Flash Fans”.  They are encouraging people to show up (the arena seats about 1,500 spectators), to cheer on both teams.  I can only imagine that the players from Nunavik would be overwhelmed at the show of support, and many of them probably haven’t been to a game with so many fans let alone played in one.

Also, organizers will be raffling off prizes in an effort to raise money for equipment to send back to Nunavik with the team.  The Ottawa 67’s have jumped on board, offering a donation of equipment and also a raffle prize of a pair of tickets for the upcoming playoffs.

The game is from 7:15-8:00, and fans are encouraged to show up any time after 6:30 to make signs and to make both teams feel at home and enjoy the experience.  I for one will be there.  It is only an hour or so of your time and the atmosphere will provide an emotional experience for all involved, and it will raise money for a good cause at the same time.
