Non-Sens Game Of The Day – TOR @ PHI

Around the league, there are games that will impact the Ottawa Senators and their playoff hopes. This feature highlights one of them, a game to keep your eye on in order to keep abreast of the Senators’ post-season chances.

TODAY’S FEATURED GAME –  Toronto Maple Leafs @ Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers host the 7th place Maple Leafs, in a game that sees Sens fans become Flyers fans for a night.  A loss by the Leafs combined with a Senators win over the Preds, would put the Sens a point up on their provincial rivals, while the opposite result would deeply hamper the Sens chances to finish higher than 8th, and would put their focus on staying ahead of Florida and/or Washington for the final playoff spot.

Trailing the Flyers by 6 points, having played 3 more games, it doesn’t appear that the Sens can catch the Flyers, so them getting the two points is inconsequential.  Hopefully they can do the Sens a favor and keep the Leafs pointless.

Other games impacting the Senators tonight are:

STL @ NJ – Devils are 4 points up on Sens

WPG @ WAS – The Caps need to make a run so that Ottawa can focus on keeping ahead of the Panthers and the Jets, a three point game would not be good.

LA @ FLA – The Panthers can go on a losing streak any time now.  They have hung around too long.

The bottom line is, Ottawa’s 7 game losing streak means they  no longer control their own destiny, and they need help from other teams in order to make the playoffs. It is not over by any means, but putting up a few wins in a row would go a long way.
