Saturday Morning Three-Peat

Here are my top three stories from the NHL last night:

1.  BlackHawks Down – The Chicago Blackhawks lost their 4th straight game and have gotten their season high 9 game road swing off to a terrible 0-3 start.  One night after Sam Gagner‘s record tying game against the Hawks, Chicago walked into Calgary and lost 3-1 to the Flames.  Chicago is one of the top teams at home, but are sub-.500 on the road which is unacceptable for a Stanley Cup contender.

2. Power Outage in Winnipeg – For the fifth straight game, the Winnipeg Jets failed to score more than one goal in regulation time.  They cannot seem to score, and it is beginning to frustrate coach Claude Noel, who was obviously aggrivated in the post-game scrum following the Jets’ 2-1 loss to the Florida Panthers.  The Jets have scored 5 goals in their last 5 games, and miraculously they have won 2 of those, 1 in overtime and one in a shootout, so it is not completely devastating.

3.  1-0 Games – Depending how you look at it, it is either a great display of goaltending or it is a severe lack of offense.  but for the fourth time in the last three nights, there was a 1-0 final score.  This time it was Jaroslav Halak  who was one save better than Jonathan Quick, and the St. Louis Blues shut out the Los Angeles Kings.  Thank goodness Sam Gagner has been around to keep the NHL’s average goals per game at at decent level!
