Wednesday Morning Three-Peat

Here are my top 3 stories from the NHL last night:

1.  Fisher Tames Wild – Former Senator Mike Fisher scored twice in the final 4 minutes as the Nashville Predators erased a 4-1 deficit to stun the Minnesota Wild 5-4.  Nashville is 9-1 in their last 10 games, and only the equally-hot Detroit Red Wings have kept the Preds out of first in the Central Division.

2.  3-pointers – Just about every team in the East that is anywhere near Ottawa in the standings played a game that went beyond regulation last night, meaning every team gained ground on the Senators.  New Jersey, Winnipeg, Pittsburgh and Tampa all had OT/SO wins, while Toronto, Philadelphia and Washington gained a single point with OT/SO losses.  A bad night for the  Sens to have given up a 3-1 lead and lose in regulation.

3.  Changing of the Guard in Vancouver – With a rested Roberto Luongo looking on from the bench, the Vancouver Canucks came back to defeat the arch-rival Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 in OT.  Daniel Sedin scored the winner, but the story was Cory Schneider, who made 37 saves for the win, and cemented his role as at least 1A to Roberto Luongo’s 1, if he hasn’t surpassed Luongo already.  Sitting Luongo in an important game just post All-Star break is at minimum a message to BobbyLou, if not an assertion that Schneider is the man going forward.
