Alfredsson, Chara Officially Named All-Star Captains

In a fitting scenario, the NHL has named the captain of the host Ottawa Senators as well as the captain of the  defending Stanley Cup Champs (who also happens to be a former Senator) as the captains of the respective All-Star teams.  Ottawa Senators Captain Daniel Alfredsson and the team he drafts next Thursday will be facing off against Team Zdeno Chara in a game that will be lacking the intensity of a normal divisional game  between the two players.  Chara hasn’t exactly been public enemy #1 in Ottawa (the current holder of that title is Dany Heatley), but there is still a segment of the fan base that is still bitter about his abandonment of the Senators in favour of the Bruins following the 2005-06 season.

All-Star weekend officially begins with the draft on Thursday night, Jan 26th followed by the Skills competition on Sat. Jan. 28th and the game itself on Sun. Jan. 29th.
