Stone Selected to Compete for Spot on Team Canada

Brandon Wheat Kings centre Mark Stone, a 6th round pick of the Ottawa Senators in the 2010 entry draft, was among 41 players selected to attend the National Junior team development camp.  Stone was one of the best players at the summer’s development camp, and has continued his stellar play this season and leads the WHL in scoring. 2011 first round pick Matt Puempel did not make the grade, and was left off the list despite being at the summer development camp.

Other players with local ties include a pair of Ottawa 67’s players, winger Tyler Toffoli and defenseman Cody Ceci.  Toffoli leads all OHL players with 26 goals, while Ceci is second among all OHL defensemen in scoring with 26 points.

Kanata native Ryan Spooner has had a tremendous strecth recently with the Kingston Frontenacs and also earned an invite to the camp.
There were only 3 returning players among the 41 names, goaltender Mark Visentin and forwards Quinton Howden and Jaden Schwartz.  The list of players that are still eligible to play in the WJC but likley won’t be released due to the fact that they are playing in the NHL inlcudes Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (EDM), Brett Connelly (TB), Sean Couturier (PHI), Ryan Johansen (CLB), Devante Smith-Pelley (ANH), Erik Gudbranson (FLA), Jeff Skinner (CAR) and Tyler Seguin (BOS).  These players would look good with the red and white Maple Leaf on them.
