RDS, Team 1200

VS

The Ottawa Senators held a 3 goal lead at one point during the game last night but fell 4-3 to the Montreal Canadiens in a shootout. However the Senators don’t have to wait long for a chance at redemption as they face off against Montreal again tonight.

Zack Smith was Ottawa’s best player as he scored the first two goals, and had a fight later in the game. Last night was also a big night for the Sens as they finally brought in Daniel Alfredsson and Jason Spezza. Although not too noticeable on the game sheet, they both played quite well and helped the team a lot. Since the last night, Ottawa was again reduced its roster by one more player, sending Jean-Gabriel Pageau back to Gatineau of the QMJHL.

Although the two teams are the same, the rosters they sport will be a bit different. First of all Matt Carkner will be in the line-up tonight to play his first preseason game of the year. Rookies Jared Cowen and David Rundblad should also be back in the line-up tonight, after being given the night of to rest yesterday.

Possibly the biggest question for Sens to figure out during preseason  is who will be the second line center. The spotlight will be on that topic again tonight as all three top candidates, Mika Zibanejad, Peter Regin and Stephane Da Costa are in the line-up, however, they may not all be competing for that one spot anymore. Tonight, Zibanejad will be playing on the right wing to get a different look at things.

Finally in net, Robin Lehner will be given the opportunity to play his first full preseason game of the year, while Carey Price will once again start for Montreal. Price will be someone to watch tonight as his performance in preseason so far has been less than impressive. He’s allowed seven goals in just over 60 minutes of ice-time split between two games. On the other side of things Max Pacioretty had two goals last night and will be someone Ottawa needs to keep track of.

Here’s the Sens Line-up:

Forwards:
Filatov – Smith – Zibanejad
Michalek – Regin – Neil
Greening – DaCosta – Condra
Daugavins – Grant – Parrish

Defense:

Cowen – Gonchar

Borowiecki – Rundblad

Wiercioch – Carkner

Goalies:

Lehner

Mckenna

It’s the second of back-to-back games against Montreal, and it will be interesting to see how Sens come out tonight after being defeated in the shootout last night.
