Erik Karlsson v2.0 – It Could Happen In Ottawa!

facebooktwitterreddit

As I was looking at the early prospect lists for the 2012 draft, I came upon a name in the “players to watch” area, that made me stop for a second and look twice.  ERIK KARLSSON.

The second Erik Karlsson was not ranked in the top 30, but was on the “watch list” consisting of 30 other names.  So after some searching (it seems Erik Karlsson is as common in Sweden as Michael Smith is in North America, and I found 13 players with that name).  I found the player that will be selected fairly early in next summer’s draft.

Erik Karlsson is a forward (listed as a C/LW) who has played for Team Sweden at the U16, U17 and U18 levels.  He is a member of the Frolunda program, the same club that produced Daniel Alfredsson among other NHL stars.

Having just turned 17 in July, he split last season between the Folunda U18 program and the U20 program.  While playing as a 16 year old against 19 and 20 year olds, Karlsson managed4 goals and 9 assists in 29 games, to go along with 41 PIMs.

Sens fans, let us know.  Would you like to have another Erik Karlsson on the Ottawa Senators roster, or would it just be too confusing.  It just seems too perfect a fit to not think about it.  A player named Erik Karlsson who comes from the same program as the Captain?  Is that too many Swedes?  And with the way the team is going now, is there such a thing as too many Swedes?  Ask Detroit, who seemed to do ok with Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Holmstrom, Franzen, Samuelsson, Kronwall, Lilja and Ericsson.

Pictuere 5 years from now with 2 Erik Karlssons, Rundblad, Zibanejad, Petterson, Silfverberg, Lehner, Claesson and Sorenson!

How SWEDE it is (or could be)!
