Sharks Bite Wings, Caps Drowning In The Bay

The San Jose Sharks have done their job so far in round 2; they won both games at home.  Now if the Red Wings are going to make a series of this, they will have to do the same.  Antti Niemi has been stellar at home, but now he is traveling to Hockey Town, where the crowd will be a factor.  Jimmy Howard has been good, but Niemi has been better.

Meanwhile, if the adage is true that you aren’t in trouble until you lose at home, the Washington Capitals are in deep.  Just when is seemed that the Caps had turned a corner and finally gained momentum by tying the game late and sending it to overtime, Vincent Lecavalier snuffed that optimism out with his OT winner to put the Lightning up 2 games to none, with the next two in Tampa.

In tonight’s lone matchip, Philadelphia will attempt to avoid suffering the same fate as Washington, as they try to salvage one win at home and even up the series heading back to Boston.  The Flyers will have to play a much better all around game, and perhaps play the whole game a man short given the Bruins’ inept power play.

Also on tap, the Ottawa’s  AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, attempt to go up 3-1 against the Portland Pirates when they square off tonight.  Portland won the 3rd game (1st in Bingo) to avoid falling behind 3-0.
