Habs Hang On, Van & Philly Punch Through

While the Montreal Canadiens benefited from a pair of 5-on-3 goals to defeat Boston 2-1 to force a 7th & deciding game, two other teams punched their tickets for round 2 last night.  Vancouver prevailed after allowing a shorthanded goal by Jonathan Toews to tie the game in the dying moments.  They killed off an Alex Burrows penalty in overtime, and then Burrows forced a turnover in the Chicago zone and made no mistake to end one of the most exciting playoff series in recent memory.  The other game 7 was not so dramatic, as Philadelphia ran away and hid, chasing Ryan Miller and defeating the Buffalo Sabres 5-2.

The Western Conference semi-final match-ups are set, as Vancouver will meet Nashville, while Detroit and San Jose will square off.   Meanwhile, the final two teams will be decided tonight as Boston host Montreal for a rare game on  back-to-back days in the playoffs.  The other series will see Pittsburgh host Tampa Bay for the right to advance.

Also tonight, the Binghamton Senators begin their second round matchup with the Portland Pirates, who might get some reinforcements from the Sabres after their elimination last night.  Eligible players are Jhonas Enroth, Mark Mancari, Marc-Andre Gragnani, and Matt Ellis who were all with Buffalo until last night.
