Jared’s Memorable Senators Moment of 2010-11

Looking back on the season that was, obviously there wasn’t a ton of stuff to write home about for the Ottawa Senators.

Alfie’s 1,000th point is a big one, but that was taken already!  Zack Smith’s fight with Nathan Horton was great, but it was no Ray Emery-Martin Biron/Andrew Peters or Ottawa-Philadelphia defining moment.

My favorite moment of the 2010-11 season has to be Feb 19th – Craig Anderson’s first game in a Senators uniform.  After suffering through a tremendous slump that saw the Senators management throw in the towel on the season, Anderson was acquired from Colorado for the struggling Brian Elliott.  After losing 13-of-14 it was time for Elliott to go, but Senators fans were unsure exactly what they were getting back.  Anderson had a roller coaster ride in Colorado and had struggled for the most part this season.

As for Anderson’s Senators debut, there is nothing like throwing your newest player right into the fire, against the provincial rival Toronto Maple Leafs, right on Hockey Night In Canada.  How did Anderson respond?  Only by stopping all 47 shots he faced in regulation and overtime, and an additional 3 saves in the shootout for a 1-0 shutout, shootout win, right in the ACC.

Here you can relive the glory of that tremendous debut:

This moment would be hollow if Anderson had flamed out the rest of the season.  Anderson, however, continued his stellar performance for most of the rest of the season, and aside from one soft stretch, gave the Senators hope for the future in the net.
