Making his NHL debut tonight will be 2008 2nd round draft pick, Patrick Wiercioch. The 20 yr old defenceman will be filling in for the injured Sergei Gonchar and will be the seventh Senators prospect to play their first NHL game this season. Check out his pre-game interview.
From the video, the kid seems like he was humbled by his slow start in the AHL. He hoped to make the jump from college to the NHL this season, but was not physically and mentally ready for the big leagues. With his better play of late, he seems to have gotten his confidence back and is playing his offensive game. This is his chance to prove he is a top prospect in the organization and an option going forward on the blueline. Good luck tonight.
Here is a video of Coach Clouston speaking about Wiercioch’s season so far. The Wiercioch comments are about 30 seconds into the clip.
