When I first heard the re-signing of Chris Campoli late last night, I was somewhat tepid. It was a fair deal and fair price for someone likely to play on the last pairing for the team, but I wasn’t as enthusiastic about the deal as I was with previous Restricted Free Agents Nick Foligno and Peter Regin.

Click “Continue Reading” to find out my thoughts on Chris Campoli re-signing and the next priority for management.

Campoli now enters a huge battle for the last spot on the back six. While Chris obviously has more experience and eventually the benefit of the doubt from Coach Cory Clouston, things can change in an instant as we saw in the last Training Camp. There are younger men in the wings, such as Brian Lee, Jared Cowen, and Patrick Wiercioch.

The fact that now we have all of our RFA’s re-signed, the top priority for Bryan Murray and Tim Murray is to find a coach for the Binghamton Senators. While I believe this should be announced in the next week, I really have no idea on who the coach will be. My guess is they go back to the WHL and hire Dave Hunchak, a seasoned coach of the Moose Jaw Warriors.

With less than $2 million left in cap room, don’t expct any free-agent signings, unless they are depth ones for Binghamton. There is still a possibility that a guy like Brian Lee may be moved to create more space. Although there aren’t many teams interested in the defenseman, I still bet Bryan Murray can find a suitor for Lee.
