Thoughts on a Wednesday

Last night’s game showed how dominating the San Jose Sharks. The Senators did make some mistakes but San Jose just steamrolled away with their offense. The top line of Heatley-Thornton-Marleau killed us tonight. Ryan Clowe scored a squeaker past Brian Elliott while Jamie McGinn went top shelf for a goal. The story of the night was however Patrick Marleau’s two goals. Two very different goals. Anton Volchenkov didn’t necessarily look bad but he never got the handle of keeping the top line within it’s tracks. Brian Elliott looked weak as well and Marleau’s 1st goal and Clowe’s goal were ones he should have had.

Milan Michalek was the lone goalscorer last night and even though it find that amazing form Milky, it’s a bit problematic as well. Somebody has to step up besides him and take control of the game. I’m looking at you, Jason. Yes, you’re WAY better defensively this year but you’re a No.1 centre, you need to score!

Every Sens fan is talking about the rumor Mark Christopher spread around that includes Nikita Filatov and an AHL player being dealt to Ottawa for Brian Lee, Jesse Winchester, and SJ’s 2nd round pick in 2010. Hmm, is Columbus really going to give up on Filatov? He didn’t start well this season after an expected breakout rookie year and it is reported Ken Hitchcock wasn’t his biggest fan, therefore being sent to the KHL. However, this still looks suspicious. I’ll say not for now, but Brian Lee for sure may be on the market.
