A New Superman Called Pavelec: Thrashers 3, Senators 1

Ottawa has now lost their last 4 of 5 with a loss tonight against the Thrashers. There was excitement in the air, it’s Halloween and black thirds debuted tonight, and they did compete, but were denied 50 times by Ondrej Pavelec. Zach Bogosian, Rich Peverley, and Maxim Afinogenov scroed for the Trash while Mike Fisher replied with his 5th. Carrie Underwood was in the stands for this one wearing a Sens jersey.

To tell you the truth, I didn’t watch a lot of this game but from I saw and heard the Sens were completely dominated by the young Russian goalie today. Cheechoo had 5 shots on net, a season-high and ringed one off the crossbar in the 3rd. Pascal Leclaire had 23 saves, and even though he wasn’t as busy as Pavelec, he made some huge stops in the 2nd, otherwise it would have been 5-0. The team is seriously missing Spez and Volchie a lot, especially on the front end as Michalek is getting any good chances with Regin centering him.

I really liked Alexandre Picard’s game tonight, he had 6 shots on net and was on for 0 of the 3 goals (for those of you keeping track, Phillips-Kuba were on for 2 and Campoli-Lee were on for 1). It shows he’s practised hard on his game and deserves time on the backend. Filip Kuba played solid, and for a change Chris Campoli wasn’t that bad. He however suffered from his partner, Brian Lee who made some sloppy plays, gave away a lot of pucks, and looked nervous. Right now it’s looking like it’s do or die for Lee, because I bet he’s a guy that can be packaged in a trade.

4 day break until Thursday when the Sens host the Lightning. After that the whole month of November has 2 2 day breaks and a lot of 1 day breaks. The game I’m looking most forard too? November 12th in Philly.

This was a stupid and costly game – Ottawa had to have a minimum of 4 points against Florida, TB and Atlanta as this will come back to haunt them in April

Just for you Kovalev bashers – I saw the game and he was brilliant – he must have set up at least 10 (I don’t exaggerate) Senators and they completely butchered their opportunities – it’s quite obvious that Fisher is a winger and that Kovalev is a center – he controls the puck and dishes it out while Fisher is a power forward with speed to burn – once again I saw him make one of those patented end to end rushes and not use his wingers – who are Kovalev and Alfreddson!!!

And what drugs were the pickers of the three stars on – Alfreddson had a decent game but Fisher(other than that rebound on a 5 on 3 pp) was ineffective – Kovalev made that line work!! but because he did not get any points he was completely overlooked – Aren’t we Canadians and know what we are are looking at when we watch hockey – Yikes!!

And the Thrasher goalie gave up way too many rebounds – a lot of horseshoes went with some great saves

The Defense looks shakey without Volchenkov – Lee has been a major downgrade so far

All in all – a major disappointment given the fiasco in Tampa Bay
