Alexei Kovalev spurns the Predators?

Brandon Felder, the Predatros beat blogger over at HockeyBuzz, posted an interesting article a few days ago. He says that Alex Kovalev, now an Ottawa Senator, had an agreement with the Predators on a 1 year, $4.5 million contract. He goes to as saying that GM David Poile had the press release ready and all Kovy needed to do was sign on the bottom line.

Here, with Bryan Murray’s super hero powers come the Ottawa Senators. Can they do it? YES THEY CAN! The Sens instead offered Kovalev a 2 year, $10 million contract which Kovalev later accepted. By these actions, Poile was probably stunned and couldn’t believe he was that close to actually making a smart move.

The Sens have been a big pain in the ass, eh? First, they delay Knuble signing with the Capitals so Murray can take his jab at it. Then, when they try to relinquish Dany Heatley, the Oilers not only have to face Dany’s invisible crying, but they have to face their fan’s ranting on the blogosphere.

I remember Kulkster and Franchise discussing the Kovalev contract and stating “Good for Kovy that he stayed in a hockey market”. Yeah, I think that worked out well. Kovalev was all about the money in the off-season and he got the most from the Sens. I hope he does well in the Red and Black because he’s giving Melnyk a run for his money.

To end off, I have some interesting UFA tidbits. Murray was once hot after Ex-Cane reject Dennis Seidenberg. It is believed Seidenberg wants WAY too much money in the excess of $3.5 million/year, which is off guard since he never had a good season away from Carolina. He’s expected to sign with his former team, the Hamil…Phoenix Coyotes (damn you Bettman and Reinsdorf!). Bryan Murray also may have shallow interest in Vaclav Prospal but many GM’s believe he can’t produce without Vinny Lecavalier. He did have 54 points last year, and he’s a centre. I would take a shot on him but only for a 1 year contract to prove himself.
